Founded in 2011 in Istanbul, Architecture for All Association (Herkes İçin Mimarlık Derneği) brings architects, students, and professionals together to address social issues through innovative and inclusive design. The association focuses on creating participatory processes that involve communities at every stage, ensuring their projects serve societal needs and create meaningful impact.
Our Support
Architecture for All Association constructed a community centre in Defne, Hatay to provide a shared space for residents while fostering solidarity and resilience.
Partnering with Architecture Sans Frontières UK and the Hatay Earthquake Solidarity network, the association actively involved local residents, architects, and students in every step, ensuring the project reflects the community’s needs. Alongside the construction, a community action plan outlined principles for rebuilding the neighbourhood and preserving its heritage. As emphasised by Emre Gündoğdu:
“In Hatay’s ongoing reconstruction, we believe that this unity, working together in solidarity with the locals and organisations here, is crucial.“
Through our Kahramanmaraş Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund, we supported the Architecture for All Association in creating this essential space in Hatay. With our earlier grant, the association built a community centre in Kahramanmaraş, the epicentre of the earthquakes, to support the survivors. This space became a hub for communal sharing, aiding recovery, and showcasing the association’s approach to combining architecture and social impact effectively.
