Founded in 2011, the Association of Barrier-Free Access (Engelsiz Erişim Derneği) works to build a world that is liveable for everyone. Led by people with disabilities themselves, the association challenges deeply rooted misconceptions about disability and advocates for full and equal participation in all areas of life.
People with disabilities often face barriers not because of their abilities, but because systems, services, and technologies are not designed inclusively. From inaccessible public websites to digital security measures that cannot be used with screen readers, everyday tasks can become obstacles. The Association of Barrier-Free Access works to remove these barriers by promoting accessibility as a fundamental right, not a privilege.
Our Support
The association combines strong advocacy with practical, technology-based solutions. It develops accessible digital models, raises awareness about universal design, and campaigns for products and services that include everyone from the start. Their work centres on the idea that accessibility benefits not only people with disabilities, but society as a whole.
With support from our Digital Transformation Fund, launched in partnership with the EBRD and Support Foundation for Civil Society, the Association of Barrier-Free Access strengthened its digital capacity. Through this support, the association:
- Renewed its website to make it fully accessible
- Developed a chatbot that provides up-to-date information on disability-related legislation and rights
- Strengthened its digital communication tools to reach wider audiences more effectively
These efforts make it easier for people with disabilities to access information independently, without relying on others, and to engage with civic life on equal terms.
