Founded in London in 2017, Türkiye Mozaik Foundation is a UK-registered charity supporting positive social change in Türkiye. Acting as a bridge between donors and trusted civil society organisations, Mozaik connects international support with locally led initiatives across the country.
The foundation prioritises intersectionality and systemic change by addressing root causes of issues in the fields of children’s rights, gender equality, the environment, culture and arts, emergency relief, core funding, animal rights, and sports. It supports grassroots organisations that work directly with communities but often face barriers in accessing sustainable funding.
Independent and non-political, Mozaik operates with full financial transparency and accountable grantmaking practices.
The 6 February 2023 earthquakes marked a turning point for the foundation, significantly increasing its visibility, bringing together more than 20,000 new donors from the UK and beyond, and strengthening collaboration with local civil society organisations across Türkiye.
Our Impact since 2017
Since our inception, we have raised more than £5 million and distributed £4,9 million through 307 grants to 198 civil society organisations, reaching over 900,000 people in 34 cities across Türkiye.

Mozaik's Value-Add

Environmental Context in Türkiye
- Rapid urbanisation, industrialisation, and climate change are placing growing pressure on air quality, water resources, and biodiversity.
- Türkiye ranks 44th globally, with 47 deaths per 100,000 people linked to air pollution; levels exceed national and WHO limits in several regions.
- Pollution across ecosystems is widespread, with 24,000 suspected contaminated soil sites, 79% of surface waters polluted, and 56% of industrial zones lacking adequate wastewater treatment.
- As Europe’s second-largest plastic producer, Türkiye sends 90% of municipal waste to landfills, contributing significantly to marine plastic pollution in the Mediterranean.
- Deforestation pressures are rising, and forest fires have increased by 60% over the past decade, including 140,000 hectares burned in 2021.
- Decreasing rainfall — down 31% in 2023 — is putting growing strain on freshwater resources, ecosystems, and climate resilience.
COP31 in Türkiye presents a critical opportunity to channel international attention and funding to grassroots environmental action.
Regenerating Communities Through Agriculture
After the 2023 earthquakes, Soil for Life Association (Yaşam için Toprak Derneği) supported recovery in mountain villages of Gaziantep by improving irrigation systems, introducing cover cropping, and restoring soil productivity. Women benefited from fruit-drying units that strengthen local livelihoods, while children connected with nature through a rain-fed medicinal plant garden, learning about plants and sustainable agriculture.
Our Environment Grantmaking
- Türkiye Mozaik Foundation supports civil society organisations across Türkiye working to protect biodiversity, promote sustainability, and strengthen community resilience.
- With partners including European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Conservation Collective, and Turkish Philanthropy Funds, we’ve provided £430K+ through 69 environment-related grants.
- 13 core grants strengthened organisational capacity and long-term sustainability, while 56 project grants supported locally led initiatives.
- Grants have helped restore ecosystems, advance sustainable agriculture and climate action, promote recycling and renewable energy, and raise awareness of biodiversity and environmental rights.
- Since 2022, the Turquoise Coast Environment Fund has provided £80K to 40 CSOs, including support for organisations in areas affected by the 2023 earthquakes.
- Collaboration with the EBRD has also supported the digital transformation of environmental CSOs, providing £15K+ to seven organisations alongside expert-led digital skills training.
Conservation in Action: Sea Turtles
For over 110 million years, sea turtles have shaped marine ecosystems. With grant support, DEKAFOK monitored nesting along the 9 km Side–Manavgat beach, mapped and protected nests, and created the area’s first comprehensive dataset. They shared findings with authorities, introduced a digital reporting system, online trainings, AI-powered tools to respond faster to nesting and injured turtles, and raised local awareness for sustainable coexistence with nature.
